How do I know what extension cord to use

With a variety of different extension cord options out there how do I know which extension cord to use?

The first thing you need to know is the gauge of the wire of whatever machine you are using. From there, the general rule of thumb is for every 25 ft of cord, you need to go to the next gauge of wire. For example, if you are using a 12 gauge wire on an extractor and need to extend beyond 25 ft, use a 10 gauge cord. The lower the gauge, the thicker the cord. If you don't use the proper cord, you could blow a circuit breaker and also overheat the line.
