Yes, it is recommended to take the main filter of a wet dry vac out since its only purpose is to filter dry materials. However, the pleated filter on our Powr-Flite wet dry’s, which hangs off the float cage, should stay in place. This filter helps keep the foam down and out of the motor. Most filters are washable, so if they do get dirty or wet, you can always wash them out and let them dry.
