Power Cord Strain Relief

Strain reliefs serve several purposes. They are designed to absorb the forces of pulling, pushing, and twisting that may be exerted on a flexible power cord. Many strain reliefs anchor the cord in a stationary position that prevents stress, such as twisting or pulling on the conductors, from reaching the wire connections inside the equipment, which could result in broken wires and the need for frequent cord replacement.

Dome style strain reliefs are the most common and are designed to provide a liquid tight seal on the power cord entry into the equipment to prevent moisture from entering the interior of the equipment and causing potential damage to components and circuitry. They help to secure the wire connection to the equipment and provide longer life to the cord by preventing it from rubbing against a rough or sharp edge where the cord passes through the equipment panel.

  • Flex style stain reliefs offer flexible bend protection to the cord entering the equipment. They are designed to eliminate the possibility of the power cord kinking at the point where the cored enters the equipment.

Other types of strain reliefs hold the cord in the correct position on the machine.

It is important to properly install and maintain the strain relief on your equipment. If you have any questions call Technical support at 800-880-2913.

Strain Relief Installation – Model PF300BP, PF600BP, PF1000BP Backpack Vacuums

    1. Always install the strain relief on the extension or electrical cord – never the pigtail or stub cord coming out of the machine.

    2. Create a loop in the cord, from the back of the strain relief, pushing the loop through the bottom slot in the strain relief.

    3. Slide the loop over the hook, at the top of the strain relief. Pull the short end of the cord until the electrical cord is tight over the hook.

    4. Plug the electrical cord into the pigtail cord.

    1. The strain relief is located on the back of the backpack harness.

    2. Create a loop in the cord, from the back of the strain relief, pushing the loop through the bottom slot in the strain relief.

    3. Slide the loop over the hook, at the top of the strain relief. Pull the short end of the cord until the electrical cord is tight over the hook.

    NEVER
pull on the cord to unplug the machine from the wall outlet. This can damage the cord as well as the wall outlet.

NEVER wrap the cord from the plug to the machine. This will corkscrew the power cord and reduce its lifespan.

NEVER tie a knot between the power cord and the stub/pigtail cord. This can crimp the internal wires and may damage the cord and the machine.

NEVER put the strain relief on the stub/pigtail cord. – it will not function in this position. Always install the extension/power cord into the strain relief.
